Winter Park Resort
Mountain Improvements Planned For 2009 and Beyond

Gary DeFrange, President of Winter Park Resort, gave an hour long presentation to the Zephyr Mountain Lodge, Fraser Crossing, and Founder's Pointe homeowners this past Saturday as part of the HOA weekend that Intrawest puts on for the owners. Here are the highlights of what he revealed about what's coming to Winter Park Resort in the next few years.
In the coming 12 months, there will be virtually no investment in any new features, slopes, lifts, buildings other than completing the village. He repeatedly said Winter Park has to get to over 1.3 million skiers to be able to move forward (this year, they were around 1 million). But when they do restart the plans, here is what is coming:
1) Vasquez Mountain - 900 acres of skiing, mostly blue and 2 & ½ times longer than Cranmer; they will develop this eventually
2) Downhill Mtn Biking - more downhill mtn biking trails
3) Thrill Hill Tubing - will be under or around the Cabriolet (costs $2 million to build, so again, not coming in the next few years)
4) Lunch Rock Restaurant & Surface Lift - this will go where Lunch Rock is today at the top of Mary Jane Resort. It will be somewhere between the size of the existing Lunch Rock and Sunspot. They have to get plumbing up there in order to build it (and not use mechanical toilets as are used today) so again, it will be awhile; They will also build a lift from down in Parsenn's bowl up to Lunch Rock so you don't have to ski to Sunnyside and then up.
5) Mary Jane snowmaking - really long explanation to basically say that they want to make snow on MJ so they can open it when they open WP. Something about losing a lot of water to Denver since they don't make snow up there now and when they do have this, they'll be able to use the water 6 times before it goes to Denver due to evaporation/snowfall.
6) Sorensen Park Bypass - a run to get you more easily from one point to another up there
7) Mary Jane Cutoff - this will let you take the Zephyr and then cut over easily to MJ Trail instead of taking Outhouse (personally, this is not pretty for me in the morning if I start on that slope!) or having to do the whole deal to get over the MJ Trail by going down to Olympia and up.
8) Looking Glass Lift - replacing with the old Timberline Lift
9) Solve Zephyr lift congestion - either speed it up, get a 6 pack (but these are hard to load when beginners around) or put in a Gondola
Gondola from Downtown to Resort is on hold, no idea if they'll ever do it, maybe when they open Vasquez Mountain.

Mountain Cabin Rentals in Gatlinburg

If you are looking to rent a cabin in Gatlinburg Tennessee. I highly recommend that you consider going to Wares Valley. Wares Valley is close to Gatlinburg, but as far from the hustle of Gatlinburg and still gives you the old traditional feeling of how the Smoky Mountains were before so many people came to the great Smoky Mountains.
Finding a good cabin rental in Gatlinburg isn't hard to do. There are many choices of cabins to choose from. You can find cabins far from town up in the mountains or you can find cabins close to Gatlinburg that are more city like. For most people, they preferred to be in Gatlinburg and close to shopping. The nice thing about Gatlinburg. Is this got a lot of shopping and plenty of activities for the kids. There are arcades, and rides for the kids to do while you are shopping.
My preference is to be further away from Gatlinburg. Where's the Valley is a nice place to stay because it is on the other side of the great Smoky Mountain national Park. You can drive from where's Valley to the great Smoky Mountain national Park without having to deal with most of the traffic in Gatlinburg. Whenever you do want to go to Gatlinburg, it's only approximately 20 minutes into town.
Finding a cabin that combines both shopping, and the outdoor adventure your family is looking for is available in and around the Smoky Mountain national Park. Of course, the park itself does not have any cabins available for rent, because it is part of the government land grant. However, if you look around, the Smoky Mountain national Park. You will find cabins that are close to just about everything that you wanted to. I highly recommend that you look for a cabin rental double rent out for at least a week or for the period of time that you need.
Another point to consider is to find a cabin close to pigeon Forge. Pigeon Forge is a nice shopping area just outside of Gatlinburg Tennessee. Pigeon Forge is known for its discount shopping, but just like Gatlinburg. It has lots of traffic. So unless you plan to spend your time in traffic. My suggestion would be to stay away from pigeon Forge. However, if you have shoppers in your family than they will love the discount shopping in and around the pigeon Forge area. There are also a lot of nice kids activities in pigeon Forge. Like go cart riding and movie theaters.
So as you can see finding a cabin in and around Gatlinburg Tennessee is not difficult. It just depends on what you want. Where's the Valley is great for those people who like outdoor activities and want to stay away from the Gatlinburg traffic, and pigeon Forge cabins are great for people who enjoy shopping.
